Primary and mixed dyes
Ten dyes come straight from a flower, plant or item: white, black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, brown, light blue and magenta all have a direct source. The rest are mixes — combine two dyes in any crafting grid slot to get the blend, and one primary plus white to get the lighter shade. Bone meal doubles as white dye, and a single lapis or cornflower covers all your blue needs since 1.14.
For bulk dye, farm the source rather than the flower: a cactus smelter array feeds green and then cyan, a bamboo-fueled furnace turns kelp XP into smelted sea pickles for lime, and a bone-meal flower farm in a plains biome covers most of the rest.

How many colors are there in Minecraft?
Sixteen. Every dyeable block family, from wool and concrete to terracotta, beds, candles and shulker boxes, comes in the same 16 colors listed on this page.
What is the rarest dye to make?
Brown is the awkward one: it only comes from cocoa beans, which generate on jungle trees, and it cannot be mixed from other dyes. Everything else grows in most biomes or mixes from primary dyes.
Do chat colors match block colors exactly?
Not exactly. Chat codes use a fixed palette, while wool, concrete and terracotta each have their own shades of the same named color. The chat code column shows the closest match; entries marked with an asterisk are approximate because that color has no direct chat equivalent.
